This Winnie-the-Pooh Baby Quilt went to some friends in Canada to celebrate their new baby. It gets very cold where they live so I wanted to send some warm colors that were also soft and playful. This quilt uses a mosaic pattern of triangles and squares with a Winnie pattern fabric in the center of each block. The binding was made from a batik fabric I got from a local quilt show.
Mosaic quilts can be likened to mosaic tiles in that the both use arranged shapes to form patterns and images. While there are some traditional quilts block patterns (for example: the flying geese pattern), mosaic patterns that can be created are only limited by a quilter’s imagination.
Winnie-the-Pooh was first published on October 14, 1926. It was written by A. A. Milne who was inspired by stuffed animals that belonged to his son, Christopher Robin Milne. The very first book about the “silly old bear” included Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Owl and Rabbit.
