Quilts of Valor is a fantastic organization that donates handmade quilts to Service Members and Veterans. The foundation’s mission is: “to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts”. I created this Quilt of Valor to donate to an honored Veteran.
Quilts of Valor is dedicated to wrapping our nation’s heroes in the comfort and gratitude of handmade quilts. Founded in 2003, this non-profit organization has touched the lives of countless veterans and active-duty service members, providing them with a tangible token of appreciation and recognition for their sacrifices. In this article, we’ll explore the inspiring mission and impact of Quilts of Valor.
The Mission: Quilts of Valor’s mission is simple but profound: to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. These quilts are not just any ordinary blankets; they are meticulously crafted with love and gratitude, serving as a symbol of the nation’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who have served.
How Quilts of Valor Works:
Quilt-Making Volunteers: The heart and soul of Quilts of Valor is its dedicated network of volunteers, who come from all walks of life and share a passion for quilting. These skilled volunteers use their talents to create beautiful, handmade quilts.
Nominations: Anyone can nominate a service member or veteran to receive a Quilt of Valor. Nominations can be made by friends, family members, or even the veterans themselves. Each nomination tells a unique story of service and sacrifice.
Quilt Presentation: Once a nomination is accepted, the quilts are carefully and lovingly created by volunteers. Then, in a moving and emotional ceremony, the quilts are presented to the honoree. The presentation often takes place at local, regional, or national events, and it’s an unforgettable moment that symbolizes gratitude and support.
Quilts of Valor’s Impact:
Physical Comfort: The quilts provide physical comfort and warmth to recipients, especially those who may be dealing with the physical challenges that come with service-related injuries.
Emotional Healing: Beyond the physical aspect, Quilts of Valor play a significant role in emotional healing. The act of receiving a quilt and knowing that it was made with love and gratitude can be a powerful source of comfort for veterans, especially those struggling with the mental and emotional scars of war.
A Sense of Appreciation: Quilts of Valor remind veterans and active-duty service members that their service is not forgotten. The quilts are tangible symbols of the nation’s appreciation, and they convey the message that their sacrifices are valued.
Community Building: The organization brings together a network of dedicated volunteers, nominees, and their families, creating a supportive and caring community.
