This bold and quirky Pete the Cat baby quilt features James Dean’s Pete the Cat in yellow and blue triangles. The block pattern for this quilt is called ‘flying geese’. Flying Geese is one of my favorite patterns because there are so many ways to layout the shapes.

Pete the Cat was created by American artist James Dean. The series started with four books illustrated by Dean and written by Eric Litwin. Since then, Dean and his wife Kimberly have written and illustrated the series of books.
Flying Geese is one of the patterns that was thought to have been used as part of a secret code on the Underground Railroad. While there is a lot of debate about whether quilts were, in fact, used on the Underground Railroad, this pattern can be found in quilts that date back to 1800s.
